Burlesque Babes and Pin-ups

There is something so American about burlesque queens. Oh, yes, you can find them in other places under one name or another but burlesque to me is as American as Babe Ruth. Same with pin-up girls. Somehow I can't imagine kamikaze pilots pasting Lana Turner on the inside of their locker doors. Doesn't mean they didn't, of course - I just can't imagine it.

What is it about a glamorous doll like Gypsy Rose Lee or a Va-Va-Voom girl like Josephine Baker? Well, I'll tell you. They didn't give it all away. They did it with subtle yet sly humor. They got it. Sex isn't sexy if there isn't any mystery.
